Sacred Journeys

Death Valley

The desert has always been known as a sacred place where people seek guidance or journey within. The desert is also a place for self-exploration of both inner and outer silence where one can quiet the constant chatter of the mind, and allow the wind to release old wounds, disappointments, setbacks, and frustrations.

On a recent trip to Death Valley, I experienced a silence that I had never known before.  I knew that I had to bring this silence back into my everyday life somehow.  No matter where you are or what you are doing in life, there is always a part of you that seeks an escape from the turmoil of the world, where you can feel free of stress and the demands of life.

You don’t have to travel to the desert to experience this inner peace, all you have to do is to sit quietly and listen to the call of your inner spirit.  If you listen, you will find the silence, peace, and solitude that is already there.  Deep within each of us, there lies a beautiful inner desert or landscape where we can find a deep tranquil peace where all is well.

Your inner desert is calling…

The Energy of Success

One thing all successful leaders have in common is that they ooze positive energy.  I’m not talking about physical energy here, but another type of energy, that when we are in their presence we feel happy, excited and motivated.

We like the way these leaders make us feel, and we want to feel the same way.  We leave their workshops and seminars feeling motivated and in high spirits but eventually the positive energy leaves and we are again feeling overwhelmed, stressed out or depleted.

We find ourselves stuck in dead-end careers and mundane lives, but if we learn how to become aware of our energy, both thoughts, and behaviors, we can then make some serious life changes.

Begin the day by setting an intention to become aware of your thought patterns and recognize where you are losing power.  Negative or destructive thoughts often lead to a lack of happiness and a loss of motivation and/or passion for life.  Begin to look at what leaves you feeling heavy, unmotivated and tired.  These are the areas in your life that need to change.  Then look at the areas of your life where you feel energized, happy and excited.  These are the areas of your life that leave you feeling uplifted, inspired and happy.  Learn to identify where you focus your energy and then you can learn the process of shifting your thoughts from negative to positive to become more in harmony or alignment with what you truly desire.  It can take time to change lifelong patterns, but if you persist, you will succeed.

The good news is that the energetics of life can be changed and altered at any time.  You are not destined to lead a life of unhappiness.  Recognize that if you are feeling drained, depressed or unmotivated, that your energy is not being utilized properly and that you have the power to create the life that you want!

Mental health issues should be addressed with a mental health professional, but everyone benefits from a good dose of positive energy, positive thoughts, and behaviors that lead us out of our own negative patterns and into a life that energetically leaves us not only feeling great but living a life of purpose.

Strength Based Leadership

Strength-Based Leadership begins with identifying your talents in a way that enhances and strengthens your leadership potential.

We generally have several areas of creativity, including the ability to think outside of the box, putting together successful teams, great communication and writing skills, and the ability to use mediation skills where tension or conflict exist.

Are you currently using all of your creative talents?  If not, why?  Are you stuck in a career that rewards you financially but does not allow you the opportunity to use your creativity?

As you identify your strengths and creative talents, ask yourself if you are currently using them, or if they need to be developed.  Are you willing to stagnate in a career that does not honor your creative gifts, or are you ready to own your creative talents and bring them to purpose in your life and in your career?

If you are currently seeking to identify and explore your creativity, in whatever form, I can assist you on your journey.  Or if you simply wish to develop your creative talents further, together we can create a plan that will reward you creatively and financially so that your life’s direction will be filled with passion and purpose.

Fix a bad day - drawing of a person having a bad day

Let’s admit it, we all have them, bad days…

There are everyday bad days, like getting a flat tire or misplacing car keys, and then there are really bad days, like losing your job, breaking up with your partner, or getting ill.

So how do you survive a bad day and turn it around?  Think in short-term intervals; what can you do in the moment to lift your spirits or make yourself feel better?  Not that it will change the situation, but it can lighten your mood for a few minutes.

Here are some suggestions:

Recognize that although something bad has happened, you can shift the energy and look at what you have to be grateful for.

Practice 30 minutes of laughter yoga.  It’s scientifically proven that even fake laughter is as beneficial as real laughter.  Your body doesn’t know the difference!

Tell someone you’re having a bad day.  Sometimes just venting for a few minutes releases the crud and makes you feel better.  What’s important is that after you verbalize your feelings, that you don’ linger in the negativity.  Release and move on!

Everyone has bad days, helping someone else always feels good!

Play with your cat or dog.  Animals love to play and it’s a wonderful way to release and have fun.

By choosing to focus on something positive, you lift yourself out of the negativity and give yourself loving kindness, which is what you really need when you’re having a bad day.

The Art of Story Telling

change your life story - crowd of anonymous people

In Marrakech, Morocco, the art of ” hikayat”, or storytelling is an ancient art that has been practiced for over 1000 years.  Professional storytellers will gather in the town square and tell tales of different life scenarios through fables and folklore.

We all have our own personal stories that we tell the world, and sometimes these stories are positive and sometimes they are negative.  Sometimes we get stuck in playing certain roles that are not truly authentic to who we are.  Our stories often begin at birth and are carried throughout our lifetime.  Sometimes the roles we play include our positive traits and strengths, and other times the roles become heavy, stagnant, and conditioned over time.

Sometimes our life stories celebrate the person we are, and other times the story causes pain and suffering.  Whatever your life story, you can always change it.  You can create a new story of success, love, leadership, or adventure.

What story is calling out to you?  Are there roles in life that you need to step into?  Are there roles that are old and outdated that need to end? Our life stories will change throughout our lives and can be as diverse as we are.

What story are you telling?  Is it authentic to who you really are?  If you don’t feel that your life story has served you well, then its time to change your life story, one that includes your passions, your strengths, and celebrates the authentic you.
